Looks like Nike is planning to release a new product that lets runners record and upload Nike+ data without an iPod: The Nike Speed+ Watch. Many thanks to quick-thinking reader Steve who saw the Speed+ listed on the new Nike Store Europe site just after it went live on Monday night. He was able to save a screen grab before the product was removed from the site.
The Nike Speed+ (Style#WM0009) is described this way:
See time fly. The Nike Speed+ watch tells you exactly how far you’ve come while you log mile after mile.
- Watch receives signal from Nike+ sensor and converts data to speed and distance information.
- LCD displays distance, pace, elapsed time and calories.
- Summary run data is sent to USB for tracking on nikeplus.com
Nike Electrolite delivers one-touch backlighting.
The Speed+ comes in black only. No price or availability date is given.
I’m guessing from the description that data from the Speed+ watch will be sent wirelessly to a USB dongle connected to your computer for uploading to Nikeplus.com.
You may remember that in November Men’s Health Magazine leaked details of another Nike+ watch, the Amp+, which lets users control their Nike+ enabled iPod nano and view running data. The Amp+ watch has yet to be released.

Likely it will have a mini-USB port on the watch itself, since those are becoming so commonplace on today’s gadgets.
I don’t understand how I’m gonna listen to my music now? Can I change tracks with the watch?

pfft…
Shame the R&D team at Nike isn’t looking at putting a bike wheel sensor onto the ipod reciever.. that way I could walk run and cycle to my ipod and get the workouts uploaded…
Don’t worry though not sure I want a swim version to complete my Tri training ;-)
