Chip-Clip For Nike+ iPod Sensor
January 4th, 2007 by Podophile
A reader has pointed me to a clever German product which attaches the Nike+iPod sensor to any running shoe, the Chip-Clip. This clear plastic cap fits on the tongue of the shoe and features a slot to thread a shoelace through, which keep the cap in place. There’s also an extended lip at the front and back of the cap which slides under the surrounding laces for greater stability. But the most unique feature is obviously the angled design. The angle of the cap keeps the Nike+iPod Sensor parallel to the ground. The company claims that the sensor is more accurate in this level orientation than it is when attached at an angle.

While it’s true that mounting the Nike+iPod sensor at a steep angle can affect the accuracy of its measurements, I haven’t found that any of the commercial products or methods described here deliver any more or less accurate results than the actual Nike+ shoes. Still, you can’t blame a company for wanting to come up with a unique marketing “angle,” and overall the Chip-Clip look like a really decent product for European runners.
The 8,00 € Chip-Clip is sold by Bettina Herborn and ships throughout the EU (2,00 € shipping).
