New iPod Games On iTunes: Sudoku and Solitaire
December 19th, 2006 by Podophile
The iTunes Store has added two new iPod games from developer Electronic Arts: Sudoku and Royal Solitaire. This brings the total number of iPod games available on iTunes to eleven.
Sudoku is the popular logic puzzle which involves filling in a 9×9 grid with numbers from 1 to 9 so that no row, column, or 3×3 square contains more than one of each number. There are five difficulty settings (one of which is unlockable) and “thousands” of puzzles available. Numbers are selected from a sidebar using the iPod’s center button and scroll wheel. A very cool feature is called “Newspaper Mode” which lets you fill in a blank grid with numbers from a printed Sudoku game, so that you can then solve it on your iPod.
Royal Solitaire contains ten variations of the Solitaire card game, including the standard Klondike version as well as Aces Up, Beleaguered Castle, Canfield, FreeCell, Golf, Peaks, Pyramid, Scorpion, and Yukon. Cards are selected and moved using the center button and scroll wheel. In Klondike, the player can choose whether to play using a three-card draw or one-card draw.
As with all iPod games from iTunes, you can choose to listen to the background music provided, or listen to your own music by selecting it before starting the game. And like all iPod games from iTunes, Sudoku and Royal Solitaire cost $4.99 each and are only compatible with fifth-generation iPods (with video).

But one time I tried to use it I have Validation Error… Before iPod will give you to solve Newspaper Sudoku it tries to solve it and find if it is solvable at all. And Sudoku told me the puzzle is unsolvabale(validation error). BUT I was able to solve it on my PDA.
That’s interesting. I’ve only tried the newspaper mode once, and didn’t have any problems. I’ll check it a few more times to see if I can reproduce your error.
