PowerSong Videos
December 16th, 2006 by Podophile
I’ve added a new feature to my sidebar: PowerSong Videos. For those of you not hip to the Nike+iPod lingo, PowerSong is a feature of the Nike+iPod Sport Kit that lets you instantly skip to a pre-determined track (the PowerSong) during your work-out by pressing the iPod’s center button. The idea is that an uptempo, inspirational song can give you a boost of energy when you start running low. It’s actually one of my favorite features of the Sport Kit, and one that I think should be made standard across the iPod line (I’d love to have a “Favorite Song” at the touch of a button, even when I’m not running…. but I digress).
Anyway, thanks to Daiko’s Video Widget for Wordpress, I’ve created a list of some of my favorite PowerSongs which are displayed as YouTube videos in the sidebar (randomly) each time a page is loaded (or re-loaded). You can play the video directly in my sidebar, or click on the song’s title to watch the larger version on YouTube. If you find a song you like, you should bookmark the YouTube link, or if you have a YouTube account, add it to your favorites, as I plan to change the list regularly. My musical tastes are pretty diverse, so every song won’t be to everyone’s liking, but hopefully this will introduce a few people to some new music to kick-start their workouts.
Many of the songs are available on iTunes, and I’ve put them together in the iMix below:
The rest of my PowerSong picks aren’t on iTunes (yet), so I’ve included links to the sites where they can be purchased:
Code Monkey by Jonathan Coulton (Available from his website.)
Trollhammaren by Finntroll (Available from Amazon.com)
Amies-Ennemies by Nadiya (Available from Amazon.com)
Tous Ces Mots by Nadiya (Available from Amazon.com)
Post a link below to your favorite PowerSong videos on YouTube.
EDIT (Jan 17, 2006): Sorry, I had to remove the video player from my sidebar. It was causing page loading problems for some of my visitors. Feel free to search YouTube for any of the videos I’ve recommended.
