iTunes Movie Store By The End Of The Year?
August 17th, 2006 by Podophile
Jon Feltheimer, Chief Financial Officer of Lionsgate Films has confirmed that the company has reached a deal with Apple to distribute full-length feature films via iTunes, most likely by the end of the year.
iPodNN is reporting that during a recent quarterly conference call, Feltheimer indicated that Lionsgate had digital delivery deals in place with several companies, including Apple. “We also have digital delivery deals in place with Cinema Now, MovieLink, and iTunes, with upcoming announcements with at least two more major industry players.”
There has been much speculation about a possible “iTunes Movie Store” ever since Apple first introduced video content to their online music store.
While no details have been released regarding pricing or DRM restrictions, Lionsgate President Steve Beeks did suggest a time frame: “In terms of iTunes movie downloads, I think most likely some time before the end of the year. We know when they are planning on launching, but since they have not announced it publicly, I do not think it is our place to say anything more about that. Calendar year.” Obviously, there has been no confirmation by Apple.
Lionsgate Films is a leading producer and distributor of independent movies and home video such as Crash, Ferenheit 9/11, and The Devil’s Rejects.
Looks like I got my iPod -> TV connection up and running just in time!
